| This 5.5kW photovoltaic array on top of a 16 story building on 37th Street in Manhattan shows that solar energy is viable even in Manhattan. Most large buildings with high electricity consumption run diesel generators to meet their needs during hot summer days when the electric grid is most stressed. This is precisely when solar arrays produce the most power. If more buildings generated solar energy, it would save them the cost of diesel fuel, stabilize the grid and provide residents with cleaner air.
