Buildings are responsible for about 80% of energy use in New York City, so anything we can do to reduce energy use in the building process and in building operations will have an important impact. When we make buildings tighter and more energy efficient, it becomes increasingly important to use non-toxic materials and thoughtful construction processes to maintain a healthy indoor environment. There are many sources of information about green design and construction for architects and construction firms working on major buildings, and we don’t need to duplicate those. This section is targeted to businesses thinking about new office (or retail) space, and small design or construction firms working on interior projects.
