BROOKLYN, NY--Kaufman Astoria Studios, the historic multi-stage studio complex in Astoria, Queens, has decided to green its growing empire by switching its heating fuel to METRO’s Greenheat™, a blend of heating oil and biodiesel made from domestic and renewable sources like recycled restaurant grease. Kaufman Astoria Studios is now the largest commercial user of Greenheat™ in the City of New York. Kaufman Astoria Studios, the home of Sesame Street for 17 years and countless television shows, movies, commercials and radio productions, will be purchasing approximately 80,000 gallons of Greenheat™ annually, eliminating 70,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide, displacing 4,000 gallons of petroleum and reducing air emissions like sulfur and particulate matter. “When METRO suggested we move to greener, more renewable heating oil we decided it was the perfect time to make a change as we have been looking for ways to go green around the complex. The initiative to switch our heating oil fit naturally into our plans and we now have a new heating plant in the studio,” said Hal Rosenbluth, President of Kaufman Astoria Studios. Greenheat™ is METRO’s quality-certified brand of biodiesel-blended heating oil. METRO customizes typically sells B2 (2% biodiesel) to B20 (20% biodiesel) blends to a wide range of municipal, commercial and residential customers that use #2 home heating oil as well as residual oil, also known as #4 and #6 oil. Kaufman Astoria Studios took a bold step and switched its straight residual heating oil to a B5 residual/biodiesel blend.
